Why climate conversations?
Conversations are at the heart of how social change happens: just look at how values have shifted on issues like equal marriage or abortion rights.
But while 3 in 4 of us think climate change is a serious global threat, more than half of us rarely or never talk about it.
We want to change this. So we’re on a mission to start millions of conversations to build support for climate action through our Let’s Talk Climate project.
The story so far
We’ve teamed up some amazing partners to run the first few rounds of pilots of this training – from big national organisations like UNISON: the public service union, the Women’s Institute, the National Trust, and the Wildlife Trusts, through to local community organisations like Grapevine (Coventry and Warwickshire), Climate Action Ilkley, and EcoBerko in Hertforshire.
At the heart of the training is a two hour online Workshop for up to 50 people, which gets into the mindset and skillset needed to have great conversations about climate change.
After that, participants have the option to sign up for the 6-week Challenge – a small group based journey where people share their conversation experiences, deepen their knowledge and improve their skills further on weekly topics like building trust, cultivating empathy, and personal storytelling.
Some of our top line participant feedback is set out in this slide deck, and you can find the independent evaluation of round 1 here.
